★ Our story · Santa Cruz Mountains, California

We celebrate the fearless
women who build,
create, and innovate.

It started in 2020. Anna and Derek bought their first home, a 1970s fixer-upper, and got consumed with fixing it up themselves. True DIY fashion. Anna defaulted to ratty old jeans or athletic wear that kept getting ripped against the rough work. There just weren’t good workwear options for women out there. So Dirty Birdy was born.

Designed by women, for women

Workwear engineered to withstand the toughest of jobs.

But we also see our clothes as more than just fabric. They’re a statement. A declaration that women are makers, no matter the task at hand.

We believe in celebrating the strength, drive, and versatility of women in all walks of life. Whether it’s a day spent building or a night out with friends, our clothes are designed to give you that ‘I can do anything’ feeling, wherever life takes you.

“Every finished project came with new skills, new confidence, and another pair of ripped pants.”

The 1970s fixer-upper · Santa Cruz Mountains, 2020

Function first. Style always.

No detail felt too small.
No stitch went overlooked.

Creating is the purest form of self-expression, much like the clothes we wear every day. Our goal was to marry durability, functionality and style.

Every finished project came with new skills, new confidence, and another pair of ripped pants. It became clear: there just weren’t good workwear options for women out there. Ones tough enough to tackle any job, comfortable and flexible enough to fit into daily life.

“And so, Dirty Birdy was born.”

Meet the founders.

Hi! I’m Anna and this is my husband Derek (and our two pups, Gator and Sunny). We founded Dirty Birdy at the beginning of 2023. We moved to the Santa Cruz Mountains shortly after the pandemic started, in May of 2020.

What we could afford as 20-somethings was a livable fixer-upper, a super retro 1970s home with bright orange carpet, mustard yellow appliances, saloon doors, the whole nine yards. We didn’t have the budget to remodel, so we started chipping away DIY-style.

My hope is to provide our customers with kick-ass, thoughtfully made garments you don’t want to take off, and to inspire and empower women of all ages to get out there, tackle and succeed in trades historically dominated by men.
